DAVIDA is a part of on my ongoing series "101 WAYS I SEE YOU" She is hand built, starting with a slab of high fire stoneware and then designed and adorned before her first trip to the kiln. Her crown and neck decor were dipped in glaze and off to the fire she went one more time. I used acrylic paints to emphasize the textures of the piece. I enjoy the contrast between her rough skin and glossy adornments
Each mask from this series has its own personality. I don't know what they are going to become, yet I know they are all influenced by faces in my life. Her smile reminds me of my friend Cheryl, a name meaning "beloved." Davida is also means "beloved" in Hebrew and happens to be my oldest daughter's hebrew name. When I noticed the connection, I saw my oldest daughter's personality come through in her.
