This mask is handmade and part of a ongoing experimental series called "101 WAYS I SEE YOU" AARU means "peaceful" and may originate in Japan or Egypt -there's some conflicting information. Conflict is inherent in the piece. Made from study high-fire stoneware, and layered with black slip and red underglaze, I used sgrafitto on this piece to carve beneath the surface of the clay when it was in a leather hard state. Acrylic paint and seal were used to finish the piece.
